ROGER BRIDGES is an actor, writer, and director. He has had featured roles on hit tv shows such as GREY'S ANATOMY, SUPAH NINJAS, and EAGLEHEART. The Gordon Hunt Documentary Project marks his debut as director of a feature film.
It all started in the spring of 2013. I nervously waited as my fellow actors filed out after
class and I approached Gordon asking if I could speak to him. Why was I nervous?
Lots of reasons I guess. After a couple of hectic years taking care of my daughters full
time while also "chasing the dream" full time, I had heard the word NO way too often
as a struggling actor. I really wasn’t up for hearing it again, especially out of the mouth
of someone I had come to respect and admire. And truth be told, I was feeling a little
insecure overall. I wasn't exactly knocking it out of the park as a working actor at the
time. Let's just say the moment of "the ask" felt like it had alot more riding on it than just
"will you let me do a movie on your life story!" But, as Gordon would say, I had a job to do.
This was the scene and we were literally on the stage of a theater. The irony! I simply said
to him "You always say if we want to do something just do it. Well, I'd like to do a
documentary about you." Without hesitation Gordon replied "Let's do it". With that,
THE GORDON HUNT DOCUMENTARY PROJECT was born!
My original idea was to produce a "short film" to honor Gordon, interviewing 6 or 7 people
who knew him well... ...his wife BJ, his daughter Helen and perhaps a handful of
current and former students. The budget would be about what I thought I could afford, a
little less than $2,000 dollars. Well a little over a year later, we’ve interviewed nearly 25
people, shot all over the Greater LA Area including Malibu and a certain Santa Monica
beach. The budget has grown to 5 figures... ...and counting! Through the generosity of my
friends and a lot of people who love some Gordon Hunt, we’ve been able to keep pace with
the growing size of the production and scope of the emerging story.
Over the course of the next month or so, we’d like to share some of the stories of how
this film has evolved, what we’ve been up to this past year, and highlight some of the
people who have been involved in the process, in front of and behind the camera.
And finally, we wanted to let you know that we’ll be launching a crowd-
funding campaign on November 10th through INDIE GO-GO to finance post
production of the film (editing, sound mixing, etc.).
We’re rounding 3rd base and headed home! We’ve had our ups and downs but the end is in sight. Stay tuned in the coming weeks. We’ll have more news, sights, and sounds of
THE GORDON HUNT DOCUMENTARY PROJECT!!!
